Scanning Checkpoints (NFC & QR)

Updated September 24, 2026

Scanning Checkpoints (NFC & QR)

Checkpoint scanning is how you prove you visited specific locations during your patrol. Each checkpoint has a code that you scan using your phone.

Scanning Methods

Attlock guard mobile home screen with active-shift actions.
Guard mobile app: start from the home screen to open the required shift workflow.

QR Code Scanning

  1. Tap the Scan icon from the More menu or the patrol screen.
  2. Point your camera at the QR code posted at the checkpoint.
  3. Hold steady — the scanner will automatically detect and read the code.
  4. You'll see a green confirmation when the scan is recorded.

NFC Scanning

  1. Tap Scan from the More menu.
  2. Hold the back of your phone against the NFC tag at the checkpoint.
  3. Your phone will vibrate and show a confirmation.
  4. The scan is recorded with your GPS location and timestamp.
Note: NFC requires an NFC-enabled phone. On Android, make sure NFC is turned on in your phone Settings.

Manual Entry (Fallback)

If the QR code is damaged or NFC isn't working:

  1. Tap Manual Entry on the scan screen.
  2. Type the checkpoint code (printed near the QR/NFC tag).
  3. Submit.

What Gets Recorded

Every scan captures:

  • Checkpoint ID
  • GPS coordinates — your exact location.
  • Timestamp — when you scanned.
  • Scan method — QR, NFC, or Manual.

Viewing Your Checkpoints

Tap Checkpoints in the More menu to see all checkpoints at your assigned site:

  • Checkpoint name and location description.
  • Mandatory vs. Optional indicators.
  • Number of scans you've completed today.
  • Instructions for each checkpoint.

Mandatory checkpoints must be scanned to complete a patrol tour.

During a Patrol Tour

When you're on a guided patrol tour, the app shows you:

  • Which checkpoint to visit next.
  • A map with checkpoint locations.
  • Your progress (scanned vs. remaining).
  • Distance to the next checkpoint.

See the Completing a Patrol Tour article for the full patrol workflow.

Troubleshooting

QR code won't scan

  • Clean the QR code if it's dirty.
  • Make sure there's enough light.
  • Hold your phone steady about 15–30 cm away.
  • If the code is damaged, use Manual Entry.

NFC not working

  • Check that NFC is enabled in your phone Settings.
  • Remove your phone case if it's thick or metallic.
  • Try holding different parts of your phone's back against the tag.
  • Some phones have the NFC reader at the top back, others in the center.

Location not recording

  • Make sure Location permissions are set to "Always" or "While Using".
  • Step outside or away from thick walls if GPS signal is weak.
