Clocking In and Out of Shifts

Clocking In and Out of Shifts

Clocking in and out is how Attlock records your working hours and confirms you're physically at your assigned site. The app uses GPS to verify your location, so your time entries are accurate and auditable.

Before You Clock In

Attlock schedule workspace showing upcoming shifts and operational assignments.
Scheduling: review and manage the assigned work before starting the shift.

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • Location permissions enabled (set to "Always" or "While Using App" in your phone settings).
  • A stable GPS signal — step outside or to an open area if you're having trouble.
  • An assigned shift — you can only clock into shifts that appear on your schedule.

Clocking In

  1. Open the Attlock app and tap the Clock tab at the bottom of the screen.
  2. You'll see a list of your available shifts ready for clock-in. Each shift card shows:
    • Site name and address.
    • Scheduled start time.
    • Expected duration.
  3. Tap the shift you want to clock into.
  4. The app will begin acquiring your GPS location. You'll see a location indicator with your coordinates and accuracy reading (for example, "±10m").
  5. Wait for a good accuracy reading — ideally under 25 meters.
  6. Tap "Confirm Clock In".
  7. A confirmation screen appears showing "You are now clocked in" along with the site name, your clock-in time, and your location.
  8. Tap "Close" to return to the app.
Important: You must be within the site's geofence boundary to clock in. If you're outside the boundary, you'll see a warning message and won't be able to proceed until you move closer to the site.

Understanding the On-Shift Screen

Once you've clocked in, the Clock tab transforms to show your active shift details:

Shift Card

  • Site name and full address.
  • Start time — when you clocked in.
  • Expected end time — when your shift is scheduled to finish.
  • Duration so far — a live timer counting your hours.
  • Status — shows "On Duty" while you're working.
  • Location badge — displays your current address for verification.

Quick Stats

  • Hours worked today — total time since clock-in, minus breaks.
  • Time remaining — how long until your scheduled shift end.

Managing Breaks

If your shift includes scheduled breaks, you'll see break controls on the on-shift screen. Properly tracking breaks ensures accurate payroll calculations.

Starting a Break

  1. Tap "Start Break" when you're ready to take your break.
  2. A break timer begins counting. The screen displays: "Break Active — X mins so far."
  3. Your working hours timer pauses during the break.

Ending a Break

  1. When you're ready to resume work, tap "End Break."
  2. The break duration is recorded in your timesheet.
  3. Your shift timer resumes counting.
Warning: If your break exceeds the maximum duration configured by your admin, a warning alert will appear. Return from break promptly to avoid compliance issues.

Break Best Practices

  • Start your break timer as soon as you step away from duties — not after.
  • End the break timer the moment you resume work.
  • If you forget to end a break, your supervisor may need to correct it manually.

Clocking Out

When your shift is over (or when instructed by your supervisor):

  1. Tap the "Clock Out" button (shown in red/orange) on the Clock tab.
  2. The app acquires your GPS location, just like during clock-in.
  3. A confirmation dialog appears showing "Confirm Clock Out" with your current location.
  4. Tap "Confirm" to complete the clock-out.
  5. A success screen shows:
    • "You have been clocked out."
    • Total hours worked for this shift.
    • Break duration deducted from the total.
  6. Tap "Done" to return to the main screen.

Location Verification Details

During both clock-in and clock-out, the app captures location data for verification:

  • GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude) are recorded.
  • Accuracy is displayed (e.g., ±10m). Lower numbers mean better accuracy.
  • If accuracy is poor (greater than 50m), you'll see an "Accuracy too low" warning. Wait a few seconds or move to an open area.
  • Manual location entry: If GPS is completely unavailable (e.g., underground parking garages), tap "Enter Location Manually" and describe your location. Your supervisor will be able to review this.

Early Clock-In

Your admin may configure an early clock-in window — for example, 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. If you try to clock in before this window opens, you'll see a message indicating when clock-in becomes available. This prevents accidental early starts.

Ending a Shift Early

In emergency or special situations, you can end your shift before the scheduled time:

  1. Tap "End Shift Early" on the Clock tab.
  2. Provide a clear reason for the early departure (this is required).
  3. Tap "Confirm."
  4. Your supervisor will be notified automatically and can follow up if needed.
Note: Ending a shift early without authorization may affect your record. Always communicate with your supervisor first if possible.

Tips

  • Clock in from the site entrance — GPS verification works best when you're physically at the location, not in a vehicle nearby.
  • Wait for good GPS accuracy — give the app 5–10 seconds to lock onto satellites. An accuracy of ±10m or better is ideal.
  • Don't forget to track breaks — break time is deducted from your working hours for payroll purposes. Untracked breaks can cause pay discrepancies.
  • Clock out before leaving the site — forgetting to clock out may require your supervisor to manually correct your timesheet, which can delay payroll.
  • Check your timesheet after clocking out — verify that your hours and breaks look correct while the details are fresh.
  • Keep location services on during your entire shift — this ensures welfare checks, patrol tracking, and clock-out all work smoothly.

Troubleshooting

"Location accuracy too low"

  • Move to an open area away from tall buildings, covered parking, or underground areas.
  • Wait 10–15 seconds for the GPS to acquire more satellites.
  • Make sure Location is set to "Always" or "While Using App" in your phone settings.
  • Restart the Attlock app if the issue persists.

Can't clock in — "Outside geofence"

  • You may not be close enough to the site. Move toward the main entrance or the center of the property.
  • Check with your supervisor if the geofence boundary seems too small.
  • If you believe the error is incorrect, take a screenshot and contact your supervisor.

Clock-in button not appearing

  • Verify you have an assigned shift for the current time by checking the Schedule tab.
  • Your shift may not have been published yet — ask your supervisor.
  • You may be outside the early clock-in window. Wait until the clock-in time approaches.

Forgot to clock out

  • Contact your supervisor as soon as possible — they can adjust your timesheet from the admin dashboard.
  • Attlock may auto-clock you out after a configured period (set by your admin), but the end time may not be accurate.

Break timer didn't stop

  • Open the Clock tab and tap "End Break" manually.
  • If the break has already been recorded incorrectly, ask your supervisor to correct it on your timesheet.
